The challenge of waste management

The EU and the USA have similar approach to waste management, known as MSWM (municipal solid waste management).

The waste management strategy of both the EU and the USA has three components.

• Waste prevention
• Improved final disposal and monitoring
• Recycling and reuse

EU directives now require Member States to introduce legislation on waste collection, reuse, recycling and disposal of these waste streams.
